End-of-year heralders who want to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Memphis, Tennessee, should steel themselves for some hefty sticker shock at the hotel check-in counter. According to a new survey from www.CheapHotels.org , the city known as the “Birthplace of Rock ‘n Roll” ranks as the second most expensive destination to celebrate New Year’s Eve based on the cost of its lodging.
The survey established the minimum amount visitors will have to spend to stay in a centrally-located, 3-star hotel in 30 US destinations. According to its results, in Memphis, travelers will have to pay US$309 for the most affordable double room on New Year’s Eve. Only one destination is more expensive. Not surprisingly, New York City nabbed the top spot with a December 31 overnight rate of US$376.
Coming in at the third position is Atlantic City, New Jersey, where visitors will have to pay at least US$299 for a room. Tennessee’s second destination covered by the survey, Nashville, rounds out the top 10 with a nightly rate of US$179 for the most affordable 3-star hotel room.
The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the United States for New Year’s Eve based on their lodging costs. The rates indicated reflect the price for the cheapest available double room in a centrally-located, 3-star hotel.
